Beach Replenishment
Written by Leslie Kopp Monday, July 06, 2009
I admit I had my doubts. Four weeks ago, I walked along the Bethany boardwalk and wondered how the beaches could be ready for our summer season. There were virtual cliffs between the sand and surf. Faint hearts wondered if we were looking at a failed beach restoration program.
It was hard to remember that what was done last year, and again this year, is part of a 50-year program. There will be ups and downs but the commitment to Bethany's beaches seems strong and I know owners feel a lot more confident than they did when waters lapped under the boardwalk at every high tide.
But, Oh, how things have changed! The work is done; the beach is beautiful, and just in time! Just in time for residents and visitors, sunbathers and swimmers, young, old and in between.
