A WEAK START

Sales were few and far between in the first two months of 2008. Eleven properties went under contract compared to twenty-four last year. Not a good start by any measure. Given the increasingly realistic pricing we are seeing, however, I would expect things to pick up as the weather improves. New listings are also growing and I will analyze available inventory by location in a future postcard.

Visitors to our beaches this year will hardly believe the changes. Our new dune provides long-needed protection from coastal storms and brings with it 150-250 feet of beautiful beach. When you stand at the oceanfront in South Bethany, the vista has changed so dramatically it is almost unbelievable. South Bethany's canals are being dredged as we go to print. Bethany has approved widening the boardwalk from the current 12 feet to 20, subject only to DNREC's final say.

Taken together, our towns and our state have taken the action it needed to protect what our community holds dear. While it won't change the market in the near term, prospective buyers will like what they see.
