The beaches at Bethany are rebounding from a pounding.  Significant coastal storms last October and in January flattened the dunes and destroyed steps leading to the sand.  Bethany Beach Vice-Mayor Lew Killmer, appearing on The Susan Monday Show, said the rebuild continues...

"The sand, as it normally does, started coming back in. DNREC has been pushing the sand as it comes back in to rebuild the beaches. The dunes we have, are the dunes we're going to have," Killmer said.

According to Killmer, steps also had to be reconstructed after the storm damage.

"We basically built all of the stairways from the cross-overs, where people would walk across a sand dune," Killmer added. "We made them as kid-friendly as possible."

OWNERS: Tour the Newly Renovated Freeman Fitness Center on
May 28 from 8 am to Noon

The Freeman Fitness Center will open for business on Saturday, May 28 at 6:30 am!  

Whiting Turner, a global construction company based in Baltimore with offices in Salisbury, Md., and Newark, Del., started the renovation project in July, 2015.  Ten months later, the Fitness Center is nearly doubled in size and definitely embodies an amenity fitting a premier family beach and tennis resort community.

Upgrades include a new larger, deeper and more accessible indoor pool, hot tub and sauna with more deck space; a new Aerobics Room with a sound and audio visual system for screening movies; a modernized Cardio and Weight Room with new equipment that supports expanded

BEACH ACCESS SUMMER OF 2016

The Town of Bethany Beach has been waiting for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC) to stop work on interim dune restoration, before making a decision on how best to proceed with beach access this summer.

DNREC’s work has ended and the Town will proceed with constructing steps at the following locations over the next two weeks:

1). Second Street
2). First Street
3). Central Boulevard
4). Campbell Place (North)
5). Campbell Place (South) already installed
6). Garfield Parkway (North)
7). Garfield Parkway (South) already installed
8). Hollywood Street
9). Parkwood Street

Handicap access to the beach will only be available at Oceanview Parkway this summer. The Town is not able
