OVPD teaches bicycle safety at LB

Third-grade students at Lord Baltimore Elementary School combined fun and learning during a Bike Safety Rodeo hosted by the Ocean View Police Department on April 16.

Organized in partnership with DelDOT, the event began with a classroom presentation led by OVPD Sgt. Rhys Bradshaw. He taught students key bicycle safety basics, including the importance of wearing properly fitted helmets.

Bradshaw introduced the “ABCs” of bike safety—checking air, brakes and chain—and reviewed essential rules of the road for young riders.

Students then put their knowledge into action during the rodeo, navigating a skills course designed to assess both their understanding of safety and their riding abilities. DelDOT provided the bicycles, helmets and course setup for the hands-on portion of the event.
