DelDOT is rolling out speed limit changes along Coastal Highway from Dewey Beach to the Delaware/Maryland state line, with the first changes already in effect between Dewey Beach and Fred Hudson Road as of April 21. Additional signs will be updated Tuesday. DelDOT says the changes "were primarily prompted by concerns about speeding from the local communities and the Coalition for a Safer North Bethany due to a rising number of crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists."

Speed limits are being reduced in multiple areas, depending on direction and location. Here's a breakdown of the changes:

  • Southbound from Dewey Beach to about Conquest Road
    • 55 mph changes to 35 mph

snapshot of bethany fenwick market update 2025

March has arrived and after a winter with multiple snowstorms in a few short months, we are grateful for warmer, light-filled days ahead!

As the chart illustrates, the Bethany-Fenwick area had a slower start to the year for real estate. Through the first two months of 2025, properties took about 10 days longer to sell and new contracts were down 23% when compared to last year. The most significant reduction in sales was for condo/townhome properties under $500K, which were down 86% (1 vs.7). Therefore, sales volume in dollars, based on list price, declined by a much smaller margin (2%) and the average sale price for properties settled in January and February was up 67% when compared to 2024.

As always, if we can help you with your real estate

The purpose of the North Bethany Bicycle and Pedestrian Corridor Study is to evaluate alternatives to provide low-stress bicycle and pedestrian facilities along SR 1 between Bethany Beach and the Indian River Inlet Bridge, and to develop a conceptual design and cost estimate for a recommended alternative. These concepts will be developed based on the public feedback received to date and the results of the existing conditions assessment. The potential alternatives may include recommendations for traffic calming, median crossover closures/consolidations, shared use path(s), protected bike lanes, dedicated right-turn lanes, sidewalks, and crossing improvements.
