The Delaware Office of Tourism has launched a campaign to promote new beach attractions in Southern Delaware's coastal resorts.  The focus of the initiative is to highlight businesses that have risen to the challenge to expand or start new ventures in response to strong demand following the pandemic.

On May 17, 2022, the Sussex County Council adopted an ordinance that enacts important environmental safeguards to protect Sussex County wetlands and waterways. The legislation will take effect in November of 2022 and will apply to new residential development projects within unincorporated areas of the county.

Key changes that will impact new residential development include:

• Doubling the size of buffer zones in areas that adjoin tidal wetlands and waterways from 50 feet to 100 feet.
• Placing a 30-foot buffer zone along non-tidal wetlands and streams, where currently there is none.
• Banning the clear-cutting of trees and other vegetation in buffer zones.

Sculpture artist Peter Wolf Toth returned to Ocean City to complete some much needed restoration work to Nanticoke, the Whispering Giant sculpture.  The artist presented the sculpture to the town in 1976 in dedication to the native people of Delmarva. The iconic sculpture, located in the Ocean City Inlet,  is part of a series of 74 Whispering Giants created by Toth which can be found throughout the United States and in a few other countries.

The Ocean View West Avenue Streetscape Project has been completed! The $722,468 project involved installing 1,300 feet of new sidewalks along the east side of West Avenue and other improvements. The sidewalk installations are the first of a series of projects to be completed in the town to boost pedestrian safety.
