Fire & Ice Festival 2024

We know many of you think summer when you hear Bethany Beach, but there is plenty for residents and visitors in Bethany Beach and the surrounding coastal towns to do year-round.   Coming up at the end of January is the annual Fire & Ice Festival, and this year's selected theme is "Into the Wild".   Some highlights are ice sculptures and live carving demonstrations, a s’mores bonfire on the beach, and fireworks.  This winter festival has events taking place in Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Millville and Frankford.  If you are a homeowner, we know this event is a great reason to be in town, whether it be Bethany Beach or the nearby towns.  If you are looking for a beach property of your own, this would be a great weekend to mix in some fun while seeing homes…

Positive News for Buyers and the Real Estate Market as a Whole

Goldman Sachs announced that the world economy has entered a period of "great disinflation" that will enable policyholders to start cutting costs for borrowers in the beginning of this year.  This news comes just after the US inflation rate slowed to 3.1% last month.  The Federal Reserve has stated we are likely to experience 5 rate cuts in 2024.  Jan Hatzius wrote "global inflation continues to plummet… we therefore now see earlier and more aggressive rate cuts from several major developed market central banks," in a research note seen by Business Insider.  What is still in question is the suitable time to begin amending the amount of policy restraint currently in place.

DNREC to complete White Creek project with dredge of Assawoman Canal

The Coastal Point recently announced that two dredging projects are set to begin around the new year. The first will begin at the Southern end of the Assawoman Canal, and the DNREC’s project on White Creek is expected to be completed by spring.

DNREC officials announced this week that two dredging projects in southern Delaware are set to begin around the new year. Dredging is to start at the southern end of the Assawoman Canal, and when the canal portion is completed (anticipated for early February 2024), DNREC-contracted dredge crews will move into White Creek resuming a project that is expected to finish by late winter or early spring.

Industry professionals gather at symposium to evaluate Delaware’s Inland Bays progress after 10 years

Now a decade into the rebirth of shellfish aquaculture in Delaware’s Inland Bays, the program is still struggling to take hold. Topping the list of reasons why is that watermen do not have access to a commercial dock, said Delaware Aquaculture Association President Mark Casey.

Infrastructure is the biggest barrier, said Casey, and a good commercial dock on the west side of Rehoboth Bay is what the industry needs. A dock would save aquaculturists time and money because there would be less time motoring to leases, he said.

8-Week Sewer Repairs in the Town of Bethany Beach

In the Town of Bethany Beach, there are occasional pipe failures due to the considerable sections of the sewer system that are several decades old.  Starting at the beginning of October, work was started to make much needed repairs for the Town's sewer system!

'The 18-inch sanitary trunk line running beneath Pennsylvania Avenue from Central Avenue to the southern Town limits is currently in a distressed condition. This trunk line exhibits a tension crack along the top inside surface. At multiple locations the cracks extend through the pipe and these cracks allow ground water to enter the pipe at a large flow rate, bringing with it the surrounding soil. Fenwick Island Town Officials Urge Neighbors for Feedback in Favor of Proposed Dredging Project

Wind farm’s environmental impact statement seeking feedback

A wind power station proposed just east of Ocean City, MD (that could come ashore at 3R’s Beach in Delaware Seashore State Park in South Bethany Beach, Delaware) took a step forward recently when the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued a draft environmental impact statement.

BOEM announced on Sept. 29 that the environmental impact statement regarding US Wind’s construction and operations plan had been published Friday, Oct. 6. This notice has opened a 45-day public comment period that will end at 11:59 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20.

The environmental impact statement was made available online to the public prior to it being published. The nearly 600-page document states that all potential impacts that…
