Fenwick Island police are calling attention to a recent attempt to fraudulently sell property in the town.

According to a press release from Police Chief Michael Morrissey, the department received a complaint on Friday, Aug. 16, alleging identify theft and fraud regarding the attempted sale of an empty lot on West Maryland Avenue near the southern end of Fenwick Island.

According to the report, an unidentified subject contacted a local real estate agent and identified himself as the owner of the property, listed as 12 West Maryland Avenue.

Veterinarian Dr. Daphne Clendaniel, currently with the Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Pennsylvania, is seeking to start her own practice with an office hospital base in the Georgetown Professional Center on Old Laurel Road.

Georgetown Town Council on Monday held a public hearing on the requested amendment and conditional-use application by SPG Development LLC.

A new pedestrian pathway was recently constructed in Bethany Beach along Collins Street, a portion of Kent Avenue and Wellington Parkway. While the project took approximately three months to be completed, many years of Bethany Beach Town Council discussions and subsequent planning were required to bring this new passageway for pedestrians and cyclists to life.

Bethany Beach Town Council Member Mickey Hinman is a strong advocate of the recently completed project, and he says this is just one of many steps he and other members of the town council hope will improve overall pedestrian safety in Bethany.

Congratulations are in order for the Historic Town of Ocean View, as it will soon celebrate it's 135th Anniversary.  The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th from 12:30pm until 5:30pm at John West Park in Ocean View.  To kick things off, the Town of Ocean View has scheduled a parade down West Avenue which will begin at 12:30pm.  Additional fun includes an Ocean View Brewing Company Beer Garden with commemorative 4-packs and draft sales, live music entertainment, food sales, sweet treats, and so much more!

The Town of Bethany Beach will be hosting the Poseidon Festival again this year to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend!  Fun for all ages can be expected when you head downtown to the boardwalk and bandstand, with visits with mermaids & pirates, a costume contest, a Bethany Beach First Responder meet & greet, mammal rescue exhibits courtesy of the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute, live music, and more starting Friday through Monday!  Come Monday, The Veterans Foreign Wars Post 7234 will host a memorial service at the bandstand near the flagpole. Just in the last week or so, homeowners in Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island and other surrounding towns have started to receive letters from Tyler Technologies regarding the reassessment of their property. The letter asks property owners to review Sussex County's current building information provided, and to make corrections to any inaccurate reporting.  

As a reminder, Sussex County, in connection with Tyler Technologies, is currently undergoing a county-wide reassessment of all real property, resulting in new property values for both residential and commercial property.  The revaluation is being carried out to adhere to a 2020 ruling by the Delaware Chancery Court, which deemed the property taxing…

Coalition for a Safer North Bethany Beach has announced that two events have been scheduled regarding the DelDOT Study along SR 1 between Bethany Beach and the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The purpose of the Study is to evaluate alternatives that will improve safety and provide low-stress bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and to develop a conceptual design and cost estimate for a recommended alternative. DelDOT will also be installing short-term improvements including three Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons. This spring, there are three ways you can learn more and provide feedback on the Study and planned short-term improvements:
